PRODUCT INFORMATION
Steelnix offers duplex and super duplex stainless steel in plates, sheets, bars, pipes, tubes, and forgings for use where both high strength and great corrosion resistance are needed. These alloys work well in situations with a lot of chloride and abrasive materials, and they can be made thinner than regular austenitic grades. We have typical sizes in stock and can make custom sizes on order, cutting, machining, and certifying them to the needed standards.
What are Duplex and Super Duplex?
Austenite and ferrite make up the heterogeneous microstructure of duplex stainless steels. This balance provides it about twice the yield strength of regular 300 series stainless steel and makes it very resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking. The chemistry usually has more chromium in it, along with molybdenum and nitrogen, to make it more resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion. Super duplex is a type of alloy that has even more corrosion resistance and strength for the most extreme situations. Duplex 2205 and super duplex 2507 are two well-known grades. There are also proprietary versions for important service.
Benefits of Duplex and Super Duplex
The best thing about it is that it is both strong and resistant to corrosion. You can cut the weight and cost of pressure parts and structures by making the walls thinner if they have a higher yield strength. Resistance to pitting, crevice attack, and chloride stress corrosion cracking helps it last a long time in seawater, brackish water, generated water, and many chemical process streams. These alloys weld well and keep their qualities once they are made if the necessary steps are followed. They stay robust at somewhat low temperatures and have useful strength at high temperatures within the prescribed limits for duplex grades.
Applications of Duplex and Super Duplex
These alloys are perfect for offshore platforms, subsea equipment, desalination facilities, seawater cooling systems, and chemical process units that deal with acids and chlorides. Some common items are heat exchangers, pressure vessels, pipelines, manifolds, valves, pumps, fasteners, and structural parts that can handle splash zones and maritime environments. The right amount of strength and corrosion resistance is good for pulp and paper digesters, flue gas desulfurization units, and fertiliser factories. Duplex stainless is used for long-lasting handrails, bridges, and cladding in civil and architectural projects along the coast when regular stainless may not be strong enough.
Types and Grades
Standard duplex grades like 2205 are used for structural parts and general chloride duty. Lean duplex grades are a good choice when you need moderate chloride resistance and more strength than 304 and 316. Super duplex grades like 2507 and S32760 are preferred for use in seawater, harsh brines, and sour oil and gas settings because they resist pitting better. The choice relies on the amount of chloride, the temperature, pressure, production method, and inspection needs.
Processing and Services
We provide material that has been solution annealed and pickled with tight control over the amount of ferrite in it to ensure that its mechanical qualities and corrosion resistance are always the same. Services include precise cutting, bevelling, bending, rough and finish machining, welding support, and testing after welding. Quality choices include positive material identification, ultrasonic testing, dye penetrant testing, ferrite measurement, and corrosion test reports. They also include full mill test certificates that meet ASTM, EN, or ISO requirements.
