Answers to Common Steel Procurement Questions

These answers provide general guidance. Final material, testing and commercial requirements are confirmed through the applicable specification and quotation.

Products and Materials

What types of steel products does SteelNix supply?
SteelNix supplies stainless steel, carbon steel, duplex and super duplex steel, alloy steel, nickel alloy and other special-grade products. Main product forms include pipes and tubes, round bars, sheets and plates.
Which grades and standards are available?
Availability varies by product form. Common enquiries may reference ASTM, ASME, API, EN, DIN, UNS, AISI, IS or project-specific standards and grades.
Can SteelNix support custom sizes or project specifications?
Custom or non-standard requirements can be reviewed when you provide the complete grade, dimensions, tolerances, quantity, standard, delivery condition and inspection scope.
How do I choose the correct material grade?
Grade selection should consider the service medium, corrosion exposure, temperature, pressure, required strength, fabrication method and governing project standard. Final selection should be confirmed by the responsible engineer or specification.

Enquiries, Quotations and Orders

How can I request a quotation?
Send an enquiry through the contact page, email sales@steelnix.com or call +91 9137660023. Include the product form, grade, size, thickness or schedule, length, quantity, standard and delivery location.
What information should be included in an RFQ?
Provide the exact material grade, product form, dimensions, quantity, applicable specification, supply condition, testing requirement, delivery location and required date.
How quickly will I receive a quotation?
Response time depends on the completeness of the enquiry, grade, size, quantity, availability, inspection requirements and supplier confirmation. Complete RFQs can generally be reviewed faster.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Minimum order requirements depend on the material, grade, product form, dimensions and source availability. Share your quantity so the available option can be checked.
How long is a quotation valid?
Quotation validity is stated in the commercial offer and may depend on metal prices, foreign exchange, freight, stock availability and supplier terms.

Quality, Testing and Documentation

Can SteelNix provide a Material Test Certificate?
MTC availability can be discussed according to the material, product, source and order terms. State the required certificate type in your enquiry.
Can PMI or third-party inspection be arranged?
PMI, dimensional inspection, visual inspection and third-party inspection may be arranged when applicable. Include the required agency, test scope and acceptance criteria in the RFQ.
Are products supplied to ASTM, ASME, API or EN standards?
Products can be reviewed against the requested standard when the grade and product form are correctly specified. The confirmed quotation and documents should identify the applicable specification.
How is material traceability handled?
Traceability depends on the product and order condition and may include heat numbers, markings, MTC references and inspection records.

Delivery and Logistics

Does SteelNix handle domestic and export enquiries?
SteelNix accepts enquiries containing the destination, Incoterm or delivery expectation, packaging requirement and documentation scope. The available commercial and logistics option is confirmed in the quotation.
What affects delivery lead time?
Lead time depends on stock availability, production, cutting or processing, testing, inspection, documentation, packaging, transport and the delivery location.
Can special export packaging be requested?
Packaging requirements such as bundling, end protection, wooden cases, seaworthy packing or special marking should be stated in the RFQ for review.

Technical Questions

What is the difference between a pipe and a tube?
Pipes are generally specified for fluid transfer and pressure service using nominal pipe size and schedule. Tubes are commonly specified by outside diameter and wall thickness for heat exchangers, instrumentation, mechanical and precision applications.
What is the difference between seamless and welded products?
Seamless products are manufactured without a longitudinal weld seam. Welded products are formed and joined using an applicable welding process. Selection depends on the standard, pressure, service and project specification.
What is the difference between stainless steel and duplex stainless steel?
Duplex stainless steel combines ferritic and austenitic microstructures and generally offers higher yield strength and improved chloride stress-corrosion-cracking resistance compared with common austenitic stainless grades.
