What Are Special Grade Steel Products?

Special grade steels are selected when a standard material does not provide the required balance of heat resistance, corrosion resistance, strength, hardness, magnetic response, formability or surface protection.

Material Characteristics

The coating combines the structural base of steel with the protective behaviour of aluminium. It is generally supplied as coated sheet or coil and should not be confused with solid aluminium alloy.

Material Characteristics

Austenitic grades have a face-centred-cubic structure and are generally not hardened by conventional heat treatment. Strength can be increased through cold work, while low-carbon and stabilised grades are used for particular welding or high-temperature requirements.

Is aluminium steel the same as aluminized steel?
When a steel substrate is coated with aluminium or an aluminium-silicon alloy, the technically clearer term is aluminized steel or aluminium-coated steel. It should not be confused with solid aluminium alloy.
What is the difference between austenitic and ferritic stainless steel?
Austenitic grades generally provide strong corrosion resistance, formability and weldability. Ferritic grades contain little or no nickel, are magnetic and are often selected for oxidation resistance, automotive exhaust systems, appliances and selected heat-exchanger applications.
Can martensitic stainless steel be hardened?
Yes. Martensitic stainless steels such as 410, 420 and 440C can be hardened and tempered to obtain higher strength, hardness and wear resistance.
